Alright, few questions more questions about insulation.

1) in insulating the crawlspace floor with closed cell what would be your recommended thickness?

2) injected foam , cellulose or blown fiberglass into the wall cavities?
(we are in the south in a hot humid climate).

I have received my first insulation qoute for
loose fill fiberglass to r38 in the ceilings, injected spray foam into all exterior wall cavities, closed cell foam 1 inch thick in the crawlspace incapsulating the floor joists to prevent condensation ( open vented crawl space), and cellulose in the living room floor over a garage.

Insulation and Air Sealing - Insulating existing walls

The tubeing method is usually used on an insulated wall. As Chris said you can"finish filling the cavities with blown cellulose" if the home (wall) has only a 1'' to 2" batt present. I have done this to a lot of homes, once you do the audit and find there is only r-7 in the walls then you can finish the fill with blown in. This can be achieved by the 1'' or the 2'' hole method with tubeing. I like the 1'' hole tubed method, but that's me. Also I would rarely run into the "bulging wall" problem. But I have filled a cabinet, closet or two. Good luck.

Insulation and Air Sealing - Foam around flue in attic?

Your an energy auditor? And you used DUCT TAPE to seal up your own grandmothers attic access. Shame on you. I won't allow duct tape on anything related to wheatherization/energy audits.
Ever heard of a "COFFIN"? And you should never use foam around and flue, especially if there is a standing flame. The foam is very volitale. You need some more training I see.

Chit Chat, Current Events, whatever... - Moisture Management – What you should know

The better we build and weatherize homes the better we can deal with the moisture issues. We all know that the builders for the most part try to b uild a good moisture free home. But once the family moves in it all changes. Number of persons living in the home, number of pet, plants, aquariums dryer vening and fresh air intakes not installed properly. The list can go on and on, just like the discusion of " moisture in the home" good luck on this one , it is forever changing the way we inspect.
